One night I had an animated dream. Literally. It was a color-drenched, action-packed cartoon about a restless baobab tree, unhappy with her lot in life. I woke up, scribbled it down, and began to expand the story. Surf’n Seeds was born. I often thought that I followed the characters and simply recorded what they did and thought. Surf’n Seeds is a story about awkwardness, about not fitting in; it’s a story about learning from your mistakes while keeping your self-esteem, and it’s a story about courageously facing obligations, even when you have to ask for help to accomplish them. These are the qualities of character I chose to teach my own children.

I was born in Chicago and have spent time in exotic locales from Morocco to India. For the past twenty-two years, I have worked in the Metaphysical Department of the Canyon Ranch Resort in Tucson. I have written a memoir of my near-death experience titled Remember, Every Breath is Precious, due to be published in the fall of 2018.

This is my first foray into children’s literature but not my last as I already have a sequel Surf’n Seeds II outlined. I live with my menagerie in a mesquite bosque on the outskirts of Tucson and divide my spare time between organic farming, being a passionate sports fan, and meditation by my pond.
